it's almost 1AM on the 6th day of january, and i'm happy to report that i'm almost fully updated w/this blog! so before i forget, i must comment on this weekend's yummy eats.
after much time spent scheduling, chiara & i were finally able to set up a catch-up date @ joe's (http://www.joesrestaurant.com/index.php) in venice. even though she'd already been before, she was amenable to going again. and i was thrilled to be dining at my first (i think) michelin starred restaurant in LA! plus i absolutely love abbot kinney, so it was great to spend some time down there over the weekend. FYI that joe's has one michelin star, and has already been well-received by the likes of chiara, ophella, monica & edmund -- all pretty discerning eaters i must say. ; )
the atmosphere was nice and friendly, and our server was exceptionally fun AND funny, reminding us both of marc levis (of murphy hall fame). the first plus of this meal was the lovely brioche and pound cake that came directly to the table. i pounced on my half quickly and the carbs disappeared before barely anyone knew they were gone. after that, i munched through my salad pretty quickly as well. it wasn't until i got to my entree -- an absolutely delicious piece of pork belly that came w/poached eggs on brioche, a bit of tomato jam (a.k.a. salsa), and a bit of guac -- that i had to completely slow down and savor each and every bite of food. the last time i had a piece of pork belly that good i was at musha on wilshire and i was told my meat had been cooking for hours. but OMG OMG OMG it was good here. not too salty, and just lean enough so that it wasn't toppling over on its fat layer. we ended the meal w/a creamy dark chocolate dessert that i kept inhaling since chiara wasn't diving at it fast enough. you snooze, you lose, right? awww....
before jetting back to westwood, we stopped by jin patisserie (http://www.jinpatisserie.com/) at my request in order to check out even more sweets. i swear i'd thought i'd skip joe's dessert in favor of jin's, but after thinking about it, i decided sweets at BOTH places would work out tell. to placate our tummies, we decided to grab some desserts to go -- me w/my big meringue filled w/cream, mango, and strawberry, and chiara w/her passion fruit delight. both of us texted later about the joys of stuffing our faces w/our purchases, so i knew it'd been key to stop by. mmm....
and i'm glad that this didn't take long b/c i'm totally about to pass out. needless to say, i'll do my best to get my thoughts out into the ether sooner rather than later this year!
